[ SOM Photography ]

At SOM, photography has become an important extension of my design and communications work, allowing me to document the firm’s projects, events, and culture with a more intentional visual eye. I’ve supported formal architectural shoots for local projects—including a Wisconsin library, a Chicago neighborhood development, and a Chicago residential building—working alongside SOM’s firmwide photographer to assist with art direction, staging, visual cleanup, and on-site composition. These shoots gave me a closer understanding of how architectural images are constructed, refined, and prepared for use across project pages, award submissions, and firm communications.

Alongside project photography, I regularly capture office events, external programs, student visits, Open House Chicago tours, conference presentations, topping-out ceremonies, site visits, and construction milestones. My role often continues beyond the shoot itself, from reviewing and selecting images to editing them for social media, web, internal communications, and archival use. Across these different settings, I’ve learned to approach photography as both documentation and storytelling—balancing clean composition with candid energy, and capturing the moments that help communicate how people experience SOM’s work.
